What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a light-touch, intentional form of manual therapy designed to support the natural movement of lymph through the body. The lymphatic system plays a key role in immune function, fluid balance, inflammation, and tissue health, and is closely interconnected with both the fascial system and the nervous system.
In this work, the body is approached as an intelligent, interrelated whole. Sessions are slow, attentive, and responsive—supporting circulation while also inviting the nervous system into a state of ease and regulation. This allows the body to receive care, integrate change, and restore balance from the inside out.
MLD may be offered as a standalone session or woven thoughtfully into myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, Pilates, or coaching work.

How is Manual Lymphatic Drainage different from massage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is distinctly different from massage therapy.
Rather than working deeply into muscle tissue, MLD uses very light, specific, and rhythmic touch designed to support lymphatic pathways and encourage fluid movement. Pressure is minimal, movements are slow, and the intention is regulatory rather than corrective or forceful.
Many people experience MLD as deeply calming, subtle, and restorative. It supports sections in the nervous system in ways that allow the body to soften, integrate, and recover more effectively.
